Yes, I have obtained a copy of the "secret" 35 page set of guidelines the cops are using for the RNC. It does indeed include the nail-filled potatoes, the urine and battery acid delivered via super-soakers, and the helium balloons filled with metal shavings. All very strange, and an illustration of the strange world the cops live in. Too bad they want us to live in it too.

By the time you read this, the full 35 pages ought to be on the web someplace. Try googling for it.

And speaking of police presence, they were out there today near MSqG with the military-style helmets, backpacks of gear, and some unpleasant-looking weapons. I didn't stop to inspect because I was running late as usual. Perhaps tomorrow.

Tech setup is almost ready to go in the legal office. Tomorrow we're live!

We're hearing periodic reports from DNC2RNC; they are in the Bronx and have picked up a discreet police escort. They should be in town tomorrow for a grand shindig.

Other than that, all quiet on the eastern front. We're waiting for the storm.

I've been looking around to see the incresed security presence here in NYC, and I have to say, the few cops I've seen have been pretty muchh swallowed up by the crowd, floaitng along in the middle of the rush just like everyone else. With a couple of exceptions...

This morning I saw two of them at the entrance to a subway stop and wondered what was up. Then I saw what they were watching: a lone UFPJ person handing out flyers for A29. I guess they wanted to outnumber UFPJ folks now while it's still possible :-)

Then tonight at the RNC Clearinghouse, a couple of us played "is that an undercover?" No conclusions yet, but it was fun to follow him around and see which leaflets he took. (Very unsubstantiated rumor is that someone was outed in Miami and that this is that same person.) In any case, if we don't know that our public meetings have law enforcement attendance by now, we're never gonna figure it out.

No arrests today. I want to pick 56 prominent Republicans and shadow them throughout the convention. We can assign 6 anarchists and one "organizer" to track them :-) Any nominations?

In other news, when is someone gonna design the "Peaceful Repentant Republicans Welcome" button? Let's get on it!

NYC, center of the universe, where I can hear every language spoken on one 20 minute bus ride, the summer is hot enough that I don't have to wear a jacket at night, and best of all, I can go eat at 12 at night... Ahhhh, home at last!

The smell of the sweat and dirt in the subway, the jackhammering this morning which I woke up just long enough to notice and then promptly ignored and slept through, the piles of interesting trash on the street including a couple of heat sealant machines we almost dragged home 'cause they looked so cool; this is why I can never really live somewhere else. I can only visit.

I got here yesterday, dropped off my bags at the partment, which is *very* nice, and immediately... went to a legal team meeting. After that, food. Today, all day in the legal office, doing setup and getting settled in; a ten hour day. Tomorrow I'm gonna cut back to 8 hours. And who knows, Friday I may play hookey completely.

So, after a ten hour day, I got to troubleshoot the network at home. It works now, which is why you are reading this blog entry. Today's highlights: the Secret Service is going to have a sancutary space at this church in midtown (no joke, I read it in the mainstream press!); after a nice meal at a place two blocks from our place, I had a yummy bowl of fruit loops; I walked through Washington Square Park this morning and did *not* get propositioned to buy some pot.

If you're my dad, thanks for going the last mile to physically deliver this cell phone. It's already become a necessity.

If you're a collective mate, thanks for being here (except for Greg, since you're not here yet :-P). I'm very tired but very excited. This is gonna be *awesome*.

Finally! The UFPJ got what everyeone else has been telling them for the past two weeks and decided to go back to fight for the rally space in Central Park. And here I was thinking I was gonna spend that Sunday in the legal office. Hmmm...

In other news, I have one training left before I leave. And lots of packing and annoying errands. I'm not going to count those, it would be too depressing.

Well, it's a new day, and already everything looks better. There's no malaise so deep that morning masturbation can't cure :-)

I'm pretty excited to be going back to New York. I haven't seen people there for several years, and I miss the city. I still can't get used to how Oakland and SF roll up the sidewalks at 6 p.m., or how the BART trains late at night actually stop running. We found a place to stay in the lower East Side, which makes this trip seem even more like some schnazzy vacation.

I'm starting to count the time til I leave by the number of trainings and meetings I have left. I think it's two trainings and ... zero meetings. Can it really be zero? Woo hoo!
